Introduction: When Tragedy Strikes at the First Breath

The loss of a mother during childbirth is a heartbreak that leaves newborns vulnerable in their most critical moments. Without immediate care, nutrition, and love, these infants face unimaginable risks. At Amor Foundation, we step into this gap with urgency and compassion, guided by Florence Uwineza’s belief: “Every child deserves a fighting chance—no matter how they enter this world.”

A Story of Survival: The Twins Who Inspired Our Mission

Names: Iranzi Souvenir and Ineza Souvenir

In March 2025, we encountered twin newborns in Rwanda whose mother tragically passed away during childbirth. Left with no one to care for them, their future hung in the balance. Amor Foundation intervened swiftly, providing:

  • A Safe Sleep Space: A sturdy bed and mattress to replace the cold, unsafe floor they initially slept on.
  • Essential Materials: Clothing, diapers, blankets, and feeding supplies (bottles, formula, and sterilizers).
  • Hygiene Kits: Baby soap, lotion, and sanitary products to prevent infections.
  • Round-the-Clock Care: Trained caregivers to ensure warmth, feeding, and medical monitoring.

“These twins reminded us that love can rewrite even the darkest beginnings.”
— Florence Uwineza, Founder & CEO

How We Support Newborns Without Mothers

Our program addresses both immediate and long-term needs to give these infants a healthy start:

1. Immediate Care: Shelter and Safety

  • Emergency Kits: Providing beds, mattresses, and baby nests for safe sleep.
  • Feeding Support: Formula, breast milk donors (where possible), and feeding equipment.
  • Medical Attention: Partnering with clinics for neonatal checkups, vaccinations, and critical care.

2. Nutrition and Health

  • Specialized Formula: For infants with allergies or health complications.
  • Growth Monitoring: Regular weight checks and nutrition plans to combat malnutrition.

3. Emotional Warmth and Development

  • Kangaroo Care: Skin-to-skin contact with caregivers to promote bonding and development.
  • Sensory Stimulation: Soft toys, music, and gentle interaction to support cognitive growth.

4. Long-Term Support

  • Caregiver Training: Educating guardians on infant care, hygiene, and emotional attachment.
  • Community Networks: Connecting families to local support groups and resources.

The Twins Today: Why Continued Support Matters

While the twins are now thriving, their journey is far from over. They still need:

  • Ongoing Medical Care: Pediatric visits and developmental screenings.
  • Nutritional Support: Formula and supplements as they grow.
  • Emotional Security: Consistent caregivers to ensure attachment and stability.

Your support ensures these twins—and others like them—won’t face their future alone.

Expanding Our Reach: How We Plan to Help More Newborns

With your help, we aim to:

  • Launch a Neonatal Emergency Fund: For rapid response to newborns in crisis.
  • Train Community Health Workers: To identify at-risk infants in rural areas.
  • Partner with Hospitals: To provide “Newborn Starter Kits” (essentials for mothers in high-risk pregnancies).
  • Advocate for Maternal Health: Addressing systemic gaps that lead to maternal mortality
