Introduction: Our Founder’s Story – From Loss to Lifelong Purpose
Florence Uwineza, the heart and soul of Amor Foundation, knows the pain of growing up orphaned all too well. At just four years old, she lost her parents and siblings during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Left alone in a world shattered by violence, Florence’s childhood was marked by hunger, fear, and instability. Yet, through her unwavering faith and resilience, she transformed her trauma into a mission: to ensure no orphaned child ever feels abandoned or hopeless.
“I survived because strangers showed me kindness in my darkest days. Now, I dedicate my life to being that light for others.”
— Florence Uwineza, Founder & CEO, Amor Foundation
1. Love and Emotional Support: Building Trust After Trauma
Orphaned children often carry invisible wounds—grief, abandonment, and loneliness. At Amor Foundation, we prioritize healing through:
- Trauma-Informed Counseling: Our “Healing Hearts” initiative pairs children with trained counselors to process loss and rebuild self-worth.
- Safe Spaces: Community centers where children express themselves through art, music, and peer support groups.
- Mentorship Programs: Pairing children with role models who offer guidance, encouragement, and consistency.
2. Education: Unlocking Futures
Education is the greatest tool to break the cycle of poverty. We ensure orphaned children thrive academically by:
- School Sponsorships: Covering fees, uniforms, and supplies for primary to university-level education.
- Vocational Training: Teaching tailoring, carpentry, and tech skills to older youth for employability.
- After-School Programs: Tutoring and STEM workshops to bridge learning gaps.
3. Healthcare: Ensuring Physical and Emotional Wellbeing
Many orphans face malnutrition, untreated illnesses, or disabilities. Our holistic care includes:
- Medical Checkups: Regular screenings and partnerships with local clinics.
- Nutrition Programs: Balanced meals and vitamins to combat stunted growth.
- Mental Health Services: Addressing anxiety, depression, and PTSD through therapy.
Why It Matters: A healthy child can focus on learning, playing, and dreaming again.
4. A Nurturing Environment: Creating New Families
We believe every child deserves a sense of belonging. Our approach includes:
- Foster Care Partnerships: Training foster families to provide loving homes.
- Group Homes: Safe, family-like settings where children cook, study, and grow together.
- Cultural Connection: Celebrating traditions and holidays to preserve identity.
Success Story: Twins [1. Name of Child] and [2. Name of Child], orphaned at birth in 2025, now thrive in a foster home supported by Amor’s caregivers and resources.
Beyond Basics: Empowering Orphans for Life
True empowerment means preparing children for independence:
- Life Skills Training: Budgeting, cooking, and conflict resolution.
- Economic Support: Microloans for caregivers or teens starting small businesses.
- Advocacy: Fighting stigma against orphans through community workshops.
